Written by Jestry:

Hi my name is Jestry and I’m 25 and my SOs name is David and he is 22. I also have a 3 year old son named Jordan who is not my SOs. David is from North Carolina but is stationed in Coronado, Ca and San Diego, Ca is where I was born and raised. David and I met January 14, 2015 on a dating app called Plenty of Fish. After 2 days of texting on January 16, 2015 we met in person at a restaurant where my step dad’s band was playing a gig. After meeting each other face to face we became inseparable, spending as much time together as we could.

At first we would just spend time together on the weekends and before long I would go to his barracks where he lived because I worked on the same base and I would see him before work. Then about a month into our relationship he would come over on Friday after work and spend the entire weekend with me and my son and leave on Sunday. My son and I are very lucky that we don’t have to go very long without seeing our sailor so when it came time for him to go out to sea for the first time since we got together I took it pretty hard. He was supposed to go out for 2 weeks and come back for 36 hours and get everything ready to go out again. At the time I didn’t know about the 36 hour gap. I was asleep one afternoon and I woke up because I heard my name and I woke up and saw this super cute sailor staring back at me. BEST SURPRISE EVER!

He chose to come spend the 36 hours he had with me and my son. A couple months after that he was set to go out to Arizona on a DET because he is part of the air crew. When I had only 2 days left until I was going to see him again (or so I thought) I get a phone call from him asking me what I was doing and I told him “I’m making dinner babe?” and all of a sudden I hear him “Whats for dinner hunny”? and I turn around and he is standing in my kitchen! I couldn’t run to him fast enough to be in his arms. I was SO happy.

Well, they say that being a Military Significant Other or a MILSO is a hard job and people always ask me how I do it? The answer is simple, because I love the man in the uniform and the uniform is just part of the deal. Besides, watching him and my son play together is one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. I always say it takes a strong man to take on a single mom because now he has a little boy looking up to him as well. I have loved everything about being a MILSO so far and I cant wait to see where this journey takes the three of us!
