When I was growing up, my mom had these cartoons hanging from the fridge. Clipped from a newspaper and sepia colored with age, I always admired them and wondered what drew my mom to them.
As I grew up some more, I started to realize that the ones she kept were the ones that applied to my dad in some way.
Love is…taking your boots off before coming in.
My dad has a habit of walking around the house in his muddy work boots.
Love is…realizing your health is more important than work goals.
My dad loves his job. A lot.
The other day, I randomly came across one that applied to Taylor. Love is… counting down the days until he’s home safely. It meant something extra special to me because I thought that maybe this is how my mom felt when she saw them in the newspaper for the first time and thought about my dad.
